Laos enjoys a pristine, almost untouched natural biodiversity. Wild
elephants,
tigers,
pythons, and
black bears traipse the jungles and fresh water
dolphins swim the waters of the Done Det – Done Khone Islands in the south. Many species have just recently been discovered, including the extremely rare
Annamite Striped Rabbit – one of only two known species on earth, the
saola deer, the
laotian rock rat, as well as the
world’s largest spider. This has led scientists and biologists to come here with aspirations of finding even more undiscovered species.
